Imogen Cooper – Chicken House
Chicken House consists of a small creative team. There are only six of them so there is a family feel. They are supported by Scholastic in the States which provides a huge distribution. They take on things they like and think children will adore. They like new talent spotting and do accept unsolicited manuscripts.
They only publish five picture books a year.
Imogen said getting up on a Monday morning is exciting. A dream book speaks to the heart. It has to make her laugh and cry. More importantly there should be a dream relationship between editor and author. This will be intimate, challenging and often difficult to allow you to achieve your full potential.
Some authors find it difficult to let go but, to work in collaboration with and editor is exciting.
