Blogs and Blogging

Blogging can be an awful distraction from doing 'real' work. It is a brilliant time waster.

I got asked the other day if I made any money from my blog. The answer is I'm afraid not. You don't get paid for posting blogs. It is one of those things where you are actually writing for FREE. I've been told by several different authors never write for nothing... and here I am still blogging.

I've been experimenting in MySpace too - so now I have two blogs. The MySpace blog I have decided to use for just posting book reviews. I have been sent a couple of books straight from publishers to review. However, I will probably add them here as well.

To be honest I prefer Blogger to MySpace. I think MySpace is very messy and has a disorganised feel to it. However, I quite like the making friends function. So yesterday I set about making a few friends and I am now Harrison Ford's friend. How cool is that?

Well, it would be if I hadn't gone to his site to leave a comment and accidently left a picture of a pig. There goes all my credibility - a pig! I ask you!

That was it. Talk about being totally uncool. This is what I meant to leave:

Which would have been much more sophisticated. So there goes my lasting friendship with Harrison Ford. I don't think it even lasted 24 hours.

Ah well, lets hope I make a better impression on the agents and publishers.

I dunno, I think the pig is kinda cool ;-) Btw - do you think it was the real Harrison Ford.

Anita, have tried to reply to your email of earlier today but your mail is bouncing right back to me. Will try to resend tomorrow.

I like the pig too.

My daughter keeps making fun of me - holding her nose up like a little piglet and waving. As if that's funny!

I like the pig but I like Harrison Ford more.

I'm not keen on pigs but a definite big thumbs up for HF. He's a personal friend of mine you know! ... I hope he likes pigs?

MySpace terrifies me. I much prefer Blogger!

I know what you mean. However, MySpace is highly addictive. There is a much better search facility. Saying that I prefer Blogger too. It is much more homely and welcoming.

I had a myspace account but I wasn't able to figure it out and so many of the people I know who are on myspace are....looking for a date. I can't believe some of the things I saw on there. I don't go on it much anymore. I don't even know how to get on my own myspace account anymore. It doesn't matter, there was nothing there.

I did like the pig though. Cute!

Hi Ellie,

Thanks for reassuring me about the pig.

Did you know HF has just started filming another Indiana Jones movie? It is due to be released sometime around March of 2008. He told me this himself you know! Did I mention - he's a personal friend of mine? Me and HF... Well, you know how it is!!!!
I've always had a particularly good imagination.
Have a great day,

Anita, YOU ARE SO COOL! :-)

I had wondered about MySpace but didn't have the nerve.

I'm not too sure that blogs are a waste of time for me though.

After a long spell of not writing creatively (i.e. about 5 1/2 years) I used my blog to take me on a journey of the self to rediscover my writing voice...and also as a sort of work in progress for me to return to writing.

It helped me foster an excellent work discipline to write something often.

My blog also helped me head towards a stage play and novel, something I had wanted to do when I was younger. It was only later that I remembered. This through much self-analysis.

Now I have such a clear definition of myself and will most probably turn it into a writing diary but still a journey.

I also met friends along the way. Quite a few were carried forward into real time. They have been around faithfully for many months now.

Who knows what brilliant things yours will say to you, Anita. :-)

Hi Susan,

I use to have a fictional blog, which is offline at the moment. I had a word counter on it and at one point I found I was writing over 1000 words a day just to see the word counter go up. A good discipline but, I'm noot sure my priorities were quite right.

Unfortunately, something happened and the word counter sent all my page formatting haywire so I had to take it off the site. I lost interest after that. Writing the fictional blog didn't have the same appeal without the word counter.

But, I have plans for the story and hopefully I will get a chance to turn it into a novel soon and even get it back online.

As for a world of discovery - that's what made me decide to start writing. I kept a journal for a while and would spend hours and hours pouring all my thoughts and dreams into it. It helped me through some difficult times.

Lets see where blogging leads me!

Thanks for taking the time to write such a lengthy comment Susan. I do like it when people stop and talk to me.

All the best,

Hi Lis,

I'm getting a bit better on MySpace. There is more to do there than just blogging.

It is great the way you can personalise it but, it can get very cluttered and I think that is what puts me off. There is too much information to digest in one hit.

But, saying that I'm really pleased with my MySpace profile now and I've edited the html to get the colours just the way I want them.

Anyway, MySpace friend I'll catch you there later.
